Madison County School Board Member Rich McAdams Won't Seek Re-election in 2012

Madison County Board of Education member Rich McAdams announced today that he will not run for re-election in 2012.

McAdams said he wants to focus more on his job as president of Engenious Consulting Group, an information technology services firm, as well as his family. He's got a daughter at the University of Alabama and said his son Trey may go there as well after graduating from Hazel Green High School this spring.

"I want to be able to jump in the car and head to Tuscaloosa," said McAdams, 47. "I've thoroughly enjoyed my time on the school board, but it's just time for somebody else to step up and bring in some new ideas."

A Republican, McAdams was first elected to the District 1 county school board seat representing Hazel Green and Meridianville in 2000. Voters tapped him for a second six-year term in 2006.

The West Point graduate said he hopes his replacement will have at least a bachelor's degree, along with some management experience and a working knowledge of finances.
