HUNTSVILLE, AL -- A bribery allegation and dueling lawsuits are defining the state Senate race between a political newcomer and one of the state's most powerful politicians.

Republican Shadrack McGill, a small-business owner from Woodville, is challenging longtime Democratic Sen. Lowell Barron for the District 8 seat representing Jackson County, DeKalb County and much of eastern Madison County.
