UAH basketball: Jaime Smith, Chargers blast Delta State

Jaime Smith scored 24 points to lead the University of Alabama-Huntsville to an easy 84-68 victory over Delta State Thursday night in a Gulf South Conference game.

The 15th-ranked Chargers played one of their best halves of the season in taking a commanding 52-30 advantage at intermission.

UAH shot 70 percent (16-of-23) from the field in the first half, including 8-of-12 from 3-point range, and was 12-of-12 from the free throw line.

"We played about as well as we could play the first 20 minutes," UAH coach Lennie Acuff said. "Our execution was almost flawless."

The win, UAH's fourth in a row, lifted the Chargers to 13-3 overall and 4-1 in league play. The Statesmen, who have now lost 10 straight  games, fell to 4-12 and 0-5.
