Recruiting Season isn't over for Auburn after Finding Mixed Results on Signing Day

AUBURN, Alabama -- Auburn coach Gene Chizik said he went a long way in meeting his goal of strengthening his offensive line on Wednesday's National Signing Day. But the Tigers missed in other areas and walked away with only 20 signees and with the hope their recruiting is not over.
Auburn is regrouping after missing on a series of four- and five-star rated players before offensive lineman Avery Young stopped the bleeding Wednesday afternoon when he said he was signing with the Tigers, which brought cheers from the coaches.
Auburn didn't lose any of its committed players, but added only four that weren't already set to sign.
The reality was the Tigers missed on some big names, but the perception may have been worse.
The Tigers turned in a mixed performance among the recruiting websites, being ranked as high as 11th in the nation by Rivals to 17th by 247 Sports. And though the class stands as among the smallest in the SEC, Rivals had a positive assessment, saying the Tigers had the third-best class in the conference. Scout said only three other league teams signed more four- and five-star players. And none of the websites rated fullback Jay Prosch, who transferred in from Illinois and could win a waver that would allow him to play this season where he would provide an immediate impact.
Chizik's next goal: Add to the 20 signees.
"Our recruiting class is hopefully not complete. We're still recruiting a few guys out there that we hope to be able to convince them to be Auburn Tigers as well," he said.
