A woman who claimed to have been kidnapped by her ex-boyfriend and held against her will for a week in a Huntsville hotel has made apparently made a false claim, Huntsville police said Wednesday.
In a release spokesman Harry Hobbs said investigators have been unable to substantiate the claims made by Shonda Freeman.
Freeman told police Saturday the unidentified man had taken her from her home in Arab and held her at gunpoint at the VIP Inn and Suites on South Memorial Parkway.
She said she had escaped after a struggle in which she suffered minor injuries.
Hobbs said the case investigator found the woman's injuries were likely self-inflicted and did not fit with her account of what happened.
In addition, paramedics who treated Freeman determined that her injuries were "medically impossible" given her explanation as to how they were received.
Freeman also refused transport to a hospital.
Hobbs said the alleged kidnapper is Freeman's on-again, off-again boyfriend.
Police did not say whether Freeman would face charges for false reporting of a crime.
